Simple, Sustainable Pleasures

At the Beach

Life is full of simple pleasures.  Moments that bring great joy, but seldom cost a thing.

In this age of constant noise and action, it can be hard to find the time to simply breathe and enjoy the little things that really feed our souls.  It can help to start the day mindfully and savour your morning routine – the feeling of the warm water on your skin as you step into the shower, that first sip of coffee …  Try to focus on all that is good before the hustle and bustle of the day steps in.

Making a list of your own simple pleasures can also help in times of busy-ness and stress.  Taking a moment to let go, and think of the things that make you happy often puts everything else in perspective, taking a little more time and indulging in one of your favourite things, well that’s just magic!!

Here’s a list of things I love …

  1. Weeding the garden
  2. Making compost
  3. Picking wild raspberries & making jam
  4. Drying the washing in the sun and wind
  5. Growing our own food
  6. Walking the kids to school
  7. A day at the beach
  8. Finding fabulous bargains at garage sales and secondhand stores
  9. Making firebricks on a hot day
  10. Baking with the kids
  11. Playing board games
  12. Sharing a smile
  13. Getting to know the neighbours
  14. Handmade gifts
  15. Vinegar & Baking Soda (what aren’t they good for!!)
  16. Sitting by the river
  17. Listening to the birds singing in the trees
  18. Telling stories with the kids
  19. Practising yoga outside in the backyard
  20. Watching the ocean
  21. A hug
  22. Swinging on a swing
  23. Eating apples fresh from the tree
  24. Spending time with the people I love
  25. Learning something new

I love your list! Many great ways to build community and family! I would add for my list: Going to the park with the kids.

    Keep up the good work,
